SailONEC is a volunteer based sailing club within the Ottawa New Edinburgh Club. It provides sailing for members on club owned boats, mooring for privately owned boats, and summer sailing camps for young sailors. We offer a sailing experience that suits your needs, from beginner to boat owner.

You do not need to own a boat to enjoy sailing all summer long ! SailONEC provides dinghies for members to use at no additional cost than the basic sailing membership.

You do not need to know how to sail ! SailONEC provides training for new members at no additional cost than the basic sailing membership.

2020 Season

UPDATE

Regarding when our operations can start, due to the renovation of the Boathouse, the NCC is requiring that we move the docks down river to the east (downriver) of the boathouse this year.

To relocate them we have to have a permit from Transport Canada. Transport Canada has conditionally approved the relocation but it has to be advertised publicly before this approval becomes final. The advertisements are appearing in the Citizen and Le Droit . Then the public has 30 days to comment on the location. The earliest we will receive permission to install the docks will be the week of 15 June.

After this, what will our activities be?

Sailing Canada has provided guidance that sailing training will still be permitted, though we will have to take measures to ensure physical distancing:

- double-handed boats will be for persons from the same household only, as it is not possible to respect the 2 meter distance in a Cl16s.

- our sailing will focus on lasers and laser Pico's.

- new member training will be given by our Sail Canada certified instructors.

- we will still be offering youth training and day camps.

- members will have to supply their own personal flotation devices (PFD/life vest). Our safety policy requires them to be worn at all times on the docks and water, and it will not be possible for the club to sanitize them effectively.

- racing is not being scheduled at this time as current policy from Sailing Ontario requires two meter separation between boats and this is regularly not the case in dinghy racing (but we remain hopeful to find formats, particularly more distance races, that will permit ONEC's spirit of competition to continue).

- the web portal formerly used by the Rowing section is now being used by tennis and will be used by sailing members to reserve boats.

- there will be sanitizing schedules and procedures to respect each time you rig and de-rig a boat.
